Location was convenient to the metro and there was a place for breakfast right on the corner (important since the hotel has no meal services). And the price could not be beat. I stayed three nights for less than I paid for a one night stay at a bed and breakfast in the nearby tourist city of Suzhou. It was perfect for my purposes (visiting Expo2010, so was out of my room the entire day), but it is not for the beginner in terms of China travel. Staff did not have a lot of English, and even the taxi driver was not familiar with the establishment, so one needs to have a basic command of Chinese to get there, and get checked in.
The noise. This is life in the hutong (narrow alley) so you hear all the sounds from not only fellow hotel guests, but also all the hotel's neighbors. And the resulting noise is pretty much 24/7. My room, due to the bizarre configuration of the hotel, had hallways on both sides, meaning I got the hallway noise from both the door and from the window. In fact, the window in the shower stall opened up right into the stairwell to the next floor up. Had I been thus inclined, I could have provided a real show during my daily shower! I nearly gave up on taking a shower at all when it seemed the shower stall door was blocked from opening fully by the toilet seat. But it turned out the door swung inward also, so I did get a shower!

The staff were great. They were always helpful. English was not a problem as there was at least one person at all times day or night who spoke English. They also had a nice restaurant in the complex. If you could pass my thanks to the lady at reception around 1am on the early hours of the 16th July - Jessica i think it was - it would be appreciated.
It was a bit confusing when trying to locate the place as the name on the entrance was a different "Fenglan Commerce Hotel" and the entrance looked more like a loading entrance. It was not clearly marked. Also the room cleanliness was a bit strange as one side of the room was very clean while the other side had a bit of dust along with cobwebs? Otherwise all was ok.

Neat and tidy rooms and lobby, close to restaurants. Bed comfy. Cleaners were super friendly!!
No English speaking staff. No internet in single rooms. The staff seemed to ignore me or serve me the very last no matter how long I was waiting if there were local (Chinese people) to be served. The closest metro was a good 15 min walk away,

It's a good stopover place - near to restaurants and near enough the metro - if you're on a budget but don't want anything too dodgy - good, safe, clean choice...
